Reflecting on a Journey of Hope and Restoration
One year has passed since the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria, a crisis that tested the resilience of millions. More than 50,000 people were killed and tens of thousands more injured in a devastating earthquake that struck southern Turkey and northern Syria on the morning of Monday, February 6. Yet, amidst the ruins, hope emerged, fortified by the unwavering truth of the gospel and the compassionate response from Southern Baptists.
Send Relief has been at the forefront of this journey, spearheading 23 diverse projects aimed at rebuilding lives and communities. Through these efforts, we are projected to impact more than 84,000 people.
So far, 13 evaluations of our ongoing projects have painted a picture of tangible impact: 29,500 meals served, 21,197 individuals receiving critical water aid, 2,303 warm blankets distributed, and 14,773 food packages reaching those in dire need. These numbers, however, only begin to tell the story.
Behind each statistic is a tale of survival, of a community coming together to heal and rebuild. Safaa faced unimaginable challenges when the earthquake displaced her family, including two young children, from their countryside home. The traumatic night of the earthquake forced them to flee their house and endure the cold and rain amidst relentless aftershocks from the initial quake. They eventually resettled in a nearby city, where Safaa battled PTSD and fear. Initially staying with relatives, they struggled to secure permanent housing due to high costs and unstable employment. Because of your gifts, Send Relief was able to provide six months of stable housing and monthly food assistance. Safaa’s husband found work, and the project supported their children’s education. Now, the family is on the path to financial independence and is planning to open a nail salon. They remains grateful for their second chance, and our partners are praying they will come to know Jesus as their Savior.
As we mark this one-year milestone, our resolve only strengthens. The courage and strength of the people of Turkey and Syria continue to inspire us, fueling our mission to bring relief and restoration. Together, we are not just rebuilding structures; we are reviving spirits and rekindling hope.
Your support has been pivotal in this journey. Each donation and prayer has been a crucial part of this tapestry of compassion and resilience. As we look forward to the continued journey of recovery, we invite you to remain a part of this story of hope and restoration. With your help, we can continue to make a difference: one life, one meal, one blanket at a time.
Thank you for giving to Send Relief and being part of this story. Your gifts continue to make an impact one year later.
