A firsthand look at Venezuela’s long road to recovery:
International Mission Board (IMB) President Paul Chitwood reports from La Guaira, Venezuela, where two devastating back-to-back earthquakes struck on June 24, 2026. Standing amid the rubble of collapsed apartment buildings, he describes an unfolding disaster — thousands dead, tens of thousands still missing, and countless families now homeless — as search-and-rescue efforts continue around him.
But Venezuela’s churches were already there. For 75 years, the International Mission Board has walked alongside Venezuelan Baptists, helping start the Venezuelan National Baptist Convention — now more than 700 churches strong. Through Send Relief, IMB’s compassion ministry, we’re partnering with those local churches to bring practical help: clean water, meals, emergency shelter, and the hope of the gospel.
