Six Simple Ways Your Church Can Fight Global Hunger Starting Now

Global Hunger Relief Respond to Crisis

More than 700 million people are chronically hungry. But your church can be part of the solution, starting this month. Through Global Hunger Relief, Southern Baptists are uniting to meet needs and share the hope of Christ.

Even if you’re just now jumping in, there’s still time to lead your church toward compassionate action. Whether you’re preparing for Global Hunger Sunday on August 24 or planning a Global Hunger Relief giving event in the future, these six ideas can help.

1. Set a Goal That Sparks Generosity

A clear offering goal motivates your congregation and builds momentum. Whether you aim for $635 or $6,350, tie the numbers to real impact so people see how their giving meets actual needs.

Try this: Use paper plates with dollar amounts written on them to track gifts. Each plate represents a meal or ministry that would be funded by your church.

2. Get Every Generation Involved

From preschoolers to retirees, everyone can play a part. Use our coloring pages to engage kids in children’s ministry. Challenge older students to donate $6.35, the cost of a latte.

Looking to build momentum? Try a friendly competition between groups to see who can raise the most in one week. Whether it’s preschoolers filling a jar with coins or small groups pooling donations, generosity grows when everyone is invited in.

The more people who participate, the more connected your church will feel to the mission.

3. Host a Global Potluck Lunch

One of the best ways to engage hearts is through food. Host a potluck after church and invite everyone to bring a dish from around the world, either homemade or from local restaurants, and share stories of how hunger is affecting real people.

Ask attendees to give a suggested donation of $6.35 and use the gathering to build awareness for Global Hunger Sunday.

4. Join the 6.35 Prayer Challenge

It’s not too late. The 6.35 Challenge invites believers to pray daily at 6:35 p.m. throughout August. Even if you start mid-month, your prayers make a difference.

Download the prayer guide, follow our Instagram Stories, or text “PRAY 635” to 888-123 receive daily prompts.* Encourage your congregation to join you.

5. Share Real Stories That Show the Why

Don’t just promote the offering. Tell the stories behind it. Share about the little girl in Appalachia who found connection through a weekly community meal or the pastor’s wife in Nigeria who launched nutrition classes in her village.

When your church sees faces, not just facts, compassion grows deeper. Download our 2025 Global Hunger Sunday video to play during your service:

6. Celebrate What God Does

After the offering, don’t just tally the gifts. Tell the story of what those gifts are doing. Use a Sunday morning moment, a video, or a slideshow to highlight the impact.

Celebration is more than a conclusion. It can be a catalyst for ongoing compassion.
