South Dakota’s Pine Ridge Indian Reservation is about an hour southeast of Rapid City where Send Relief has partnered with the Chanku Waste Ranch (pronounced “wash-tay”). Through their ongoing ministry, we have the opportunity to give practical assistance, make personal connections, and share the gospel by showing mercy and compassion through hand-on engagement.
About Chanku Waste Ministries
The Chanku Waste Wellness Center (CWW) exists to provide dental, vision, and construction assistance to the Oglala Lakota indigenous people group. These basic services are often considered luxuries in this region because of a lack of staffing and resources. There are currently two dentists and one optometrist for the residents who are spread across the reservation, which spans a large portion of southern South Dakota. The availability of housing is also severely limited and many residents need upgrades and repairs to their current homes. All of these obstacles can have a direct affect on both the physical and spiritual health of a person and their families. As an extension of Chanku Waste Ranch, and by way of dental care, vision care, and construction assistance, CWW pursues the core missions of “Meet, Proclaim, & Make” to assist in revitalizing the physical and spiritual health of our community. All of our efforts are for the hope of leading those in our circle of influence to the greatest physician and Savior of all time, Jesus Christ.
What you will do:
By utilizing your unique gifts and talents you have the opportunity to give practical assistance, make personal connections, and share the gospel by showing mercy and compassion through hands-on engagement through light construction. If you are trained and licensed as a dentist or ophthalmologist/optometrist, we will gladly welcome your professional involvement. In partnering for a week-long trip to the South Dakota Ministry Center, you have the opportunity to impact the full scope of an individual’s well-being by helping them see clearer, smile brighter, feel more secure in their housing situations and experience the love of Christ firsthand.
