Denver Ministry Center
Located in the urban core of Denver, this Send Relief ministry center is focused on strengthening communities and providing support services to families experiencing poverty.
Ministry Overview
Nestled in the snowy slopes of the Colorado Rockies, Denver is a vibrant and thriving state capital, known for its prosperity and cultural diversity. With a population nearing 3 million and projected to continue growing, the city’s need for the gospel becomes greater. Send Relief, in partnership with Jesus on Colfax, has established the Denver Ministry Center, a place of hope and support for the community. The Denver Ministry Center is committed to showing up, loving people, building relationships, and cultivating well-being. This mission is carried out through partnership, service, presence, friendship, and prayer. The center serves a diverse population, surrounded by international communities who speak over 65 different languages, individuals facing poverty and homelessness, and women who have experienced sexual exploitation. The Denver Ministry Center envisions a community that rises together, overcoming both spiritual and material poverty. All of this work is being done to bring the name of Jesus to the city of Denver!
What We Do
The Denver Ministry Center hosts three key ministries under one roof at Jesus on Colfax: Common Place, Purchased, and Family Room.
- Common Place serves refugees, internationals, and foreign-born individuals in Denver, offering a welcoming space for connection and support.
- Purchased is dedicated to women, many of whom have been or currently are involved in the sex industry, providing resources and a sense of community.
- Family Room serves anyone and everyone, with a primary focus on those experiencing homelessness and poverty.
Teams will have diverse opportunities to serve during their time in Denver, including sharing meals, offering a presence in the building, and engaging in various outreach efforts. In addition to hands-on service, teams will receive valuable training in all three ministry areas. Our hope is that when teams return home, they will carry with them the knowledge and experience gained in Denver, contributing to restoration in their own communities.
Meet Your
Ministry Center Director
Kayla
Horne
Kayla Horne lives in Aurora, Colorado with her husband and five kids and serves as the Director of the Denver Ministry Center. She considers it one of the great privileges of her life to spend her days showing up for people living in the motels and streets of East Colfax and helping create pathways to belonging, stability, and hope. Her journey into nonprofit leadership stretches back to her college years in Uganda, where she spent as much time as possible learning from local communities. She and her husband later moved there with their young son to work with Engineering Ministries International. The things she learned led her to start a coffee-roasting company when they returned to the States, sourcing beans directly from East Africa. In 2018, after moving to Colorado, Kayla joined the ministry center. She holds a Master’s in Nonprofit Management from Regis University and a Bachelor’s in Biblical Studies from Moody Bible Institute. When she’s not working, you’ll likely find her enjoying a great cup of coffee or training for a marathon.
