Violent crime, delinquency, soaring medical costs; they’re big, overwhelming issues. But they all have roots in something simple—reading. Economic security, access to healthcare and the ability to actively participate in civic life all depend on an individual’s ability to read. At Send Relief, we believe literacy is a powerful tool for flourishing communities, so come and learn how your church can help.
ARISE2Read and Send Relief have partnered to train other volunteers and churches to use sight words to help increase literacy in schools. Donna Gaines, founder of ARISE2Read, describes why this ministry is so important: “The Lord commands us to love our neighbors as ourselves. These children are my neighbors. This is my motivator, and it has given me a real sense of urgency.” The training for ARISE2Read is simple to provide, and the ministry works with each volunteer spending one hour a week working with two second graders. The results for those children and adults have been life-changing.
Please join us for this one-day event to learn more about the Arise2Read program from Karen Vogelsang. This event is designed to be informational and a first step to see how your church could be involved in this ministry and if it is a good fit for your community. Lunch and fellowship will begin at noon followed by the presentation and discussion from 1:00 - 2:30pm.
