January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month.
It’s one of the most heinous, fastest-growing crimes in America. Any person of any gender, age, ethnicity or background can become a victim of human trafficking. Trafficking horror stories are circulated as cautionary tales, and families are urged to protect their loved ones.
Just as important as the cautionary tales, however, are the redemption stories. Christa Lynn is a survivor of human trafficking, and she’s now a passionate advocate for its victims.
Christa Lynn shared her testimony with hosts Lynette Ezell and Tera Melber in a two-part episode of Send Relief’s Adopting and Fostering Home podcast.
In it, she tells the story of how a challenging home life and a toxic relationship with a former boyfriend led her down the dark, dangerous path of self-destruction often associated with being snared in human trafficking. But Christa Lynn is quick to point out how that path, which included a stay behind bars, ultimately led to her find Jesus and deliverance.
“(That) night in jail, I don’t know how all of a sudden it hit, but…I think the Holy Spirit, God, literally was bringing things to my head that night, drawing me into a relationship with Him,” she said. “And my simple prayer that started me on a relationship with Jesus was just, ‘If you want this mess of a life, you can have it.’”
Soon after, Christa Lynn got a Bible and began to read it regularly. She said she felt the combination of God’s Word and prayer start making changes in her life.
“I am so grateful that whatever it takes to get us alone and remove some of the destruction we’re causing…forced me into a spot of calm and quiet where God was able to reach to me,” she said.
