Equip churches to meet the needs of vulnerable children
Imagine being taken from your home as a child, leaving so quickly all you have are the clothes on your back and what fits in a garbage bag. As unbelievable as this sounds, it is a frightening reality for many children who live just minutes from you. There are currently over 400,000 foster children in the United States alone, and the number is rising every week. Many local family and children’s aid offices are in desperate need to help meet these children’s basic needs until they can be placed into a safe home.
Send Relief is seeking churches and community partners to host and fill storage units across North America. These units can contain clothing, toys, books, bedding, and other necessities. Using an auxiliary storage unit allows social workers flexibility to come and go as needed, possibly in the middle of night after removing a child from a home in crisis.
For some churches, the cost could stretch their budget. You can participate by helping fund the initial set-up cost associated with supplying and stocking a storage unit. The approximately $2500 set-up costs are practical, including coverage of shelving units, storage totes and lighting. Your support can restore the dignity of young children and teenagers in tough situations.
